Information, Scoring & Rules

Contestant – Qualification of age range
Cubs Division (4 to 7 Years old)
Youth Division (8-11 years old)
Cadet Division (12-14 years old)
Junior Division (15-17 years old)
Adult Division (18+ years old)
(Interpretation) The age limits for the each division is based on the year, not on the date, when the Championships are held. For example, in junior division, contestants shall be between 15 and 17 years old.
Designated Compulsory Poomsae by division among Recognized Poomsae
Beginners category (White to Yellow stripe) Taegeuk 1, 2, and 3 Jang
Intermediate category (Green to Red) Taeguk 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 Jang

Contestant – Medical control
At taekwondo events promoted or sanctioned by the Maldives Taekwondo, any use or administration of drugs or chemical is prohibited.
As per Poomsae Competition Rules and Interpretation (In force as ofMay14, 2019) Page 7, substances described in the WT Anti-Doping Rules is prohibited
The Maldives Taekwondo may carry out all medical testing deemed necessary to ascertain if a contestant has committed a breach of the WT Anti-Doping Rules, and any winner who refuses to undergo this testing or who proves to have committed such a breach shall be removed from the final standings.
Classifications of Competition – Methods of Competition
Cut off System
(Explanation #1) the cut-off system shall comprise the preliminary, semi-final and final rounds depending on number of athletes per age/belt group.
15 or more players – Preliminaries
10 to 15 players – Semi finals
Top 5 athletes from semifinal- Finals – Playing for 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze
Duration of Contest
Recognized Poomsae: Individual, Pair, and Team competitions up to 90 seconds
Procedures of contest
Call for contestants: Thirty minutes prior to the scheduled start of the contest, the names of the contestants shall be announced three times to contestants’ training area. Any contestant who fails to appear in the competition area, the competition coordinator shall be regarded as having withdrawn from and forfeited the match.
Physical inspection and uniform inspection: After being called, the contestants shall undergo a physical inspection and a uniform inspection at the specified inspection desk by an inspector designated by the Maldives Taekwondo. The contestant shall not show any signs of aversion, and shall not bear any object which may cause harm to the other contestant.

Recognized Poomsae (10.0)
Accuracy (4.0):
Accuracy in basic movements – Accuracy in individual movement of the Poomsae – Balance
Presentation (6.0):
Speed and power (2.0) – Rhythm & tempo (2.0) – Expression of energy (2.0)
